Graphic Design Class - Visiting Artist Series!

Graphic Design Class Welcomes Guest Artist

David Hamilton Graphic Designer

November 6, 2015

On Friday, the sixth grade Graphic Design Class hosted visiting artist
David Hamilton

David is also the father to one of our Curley second grader in Ms. Ciardi's classroom! David is one of our many talented parents, bringing his skills and expertise to the Curley in many ways.  David is also the designer of our fabulous Curley Cares School Tee Shirt's and posters.

The students in Graphic design were excited to have David, a professional Graphic Designer present a  lesson in  Designing Typography using Positive and Negative Space to create a class alphabet.  You can see the alphabet next to him on the right.

The students were amazed to see how many ways they could draw, identify and design just one letter.  Each student was given a letter and he told them to come up with designs 10 different ways. The challenge was they could only use  two shapes.  All the letters were added to the                             board and created an alphabet.

6th grade students listen to the end of the lesson and have a discussion as to what we learned and how we could further use the letters we made in class.

Goodbye Day Middle School Students and Staff

I wish I could stay and I've met amazing students and friends along the way.  Unfortunately, though it's time for me to go. I will definitely miss the amazing students doing great work.  I have felt welcomed by my colleagues I had the pleasure of working with and could only hope to work in such a lovely school community again.

Fall Art Projects

Well- here they are, some of the interesting art we have been doing this fall.

Marvin Bartel's Art Rubric

Marvin Bartel's Art Rubric : Rubrics make assessing students' work efficient, consistent, objective, and faster. Teachers evaluating an assignment will know implicitly what makes that assignment excellent, mediocre, or in need of improvement. Rubrics take the guesswork and subjectivity out of the assessment.
