Graphic Design Class - Visiting Artist Series!

Graphic Design Class Welcomes Guest Artist David Hamilton  Graphic Designer November 6, 2015 On Friday, the sixth grade Graphic Design Class hosted visiting artist David Hamilton David is also the father to one of our Curley second grader in Ms. Ciardi's classroom! David is one of our many talented parents, bringing his skills and expertise to the Curley in many ways.  David is also the designer of our fabulous Curley Cares School Tee Shirt's and posters.    The students in Graphic design were excited to have David, a professional Graphic Designer present a  lesson in  Designing Typography using Positive and Negative Space to create a class alphabet.  You can see the alphabet next to him on the right. The students were amazed to see how many ways they could draw, identify and design just one letter.  Each student was given a letter and he told them to come up with designs 10 different ways...

Looking - Learning - Teaching    Inspiration and Technology in The Art Room  So  here we are, the beginning of another school year in the art room, my 22nd to be exact, it's really been that long.  When I began teaching in the mid-90 there was no Internet in the schools, you be lucky to have dial up at home. I like the old techniques and the new, I can't imagine not taking my students to the MFA at least once and I can't imagine not using the technology we have as a teaching tool, a window to another place, that they may not be able to see in their lifetime. We looked at art the "old school" way, there was the field trip which consisted of getting on public transportation, the ( T ) as we call it her in Boston. It was me and one lucky student teacher or parent volunteer and 25-30 kids riding the train to the MFA, The Gardner Museum, Mass College of Art or the ICA.  If we were in the classroom the resources available to us were on film, in books, o...
